PARSLEY | Growing Herbs

GROWING PARSLEY

Parsley is a biennial, completing its life cycle in two years.

The first year it sends up aromatic leaves; the second it flowers and then dies.

It can self-sow. A Mediterranean native, parsley loves sun.

It’s a pretty border plant and is a good container herb (plant in a tall pot since it has a long taproot).

Soak seeds in water overnight to hasten germination.

There are three kinds of parsley: curly parsley, the European flat leaf, and Hamburg parsley, an annual variety raised for its root.

My dear friend, Wilma Kasach, who was Hungarian, always put parsley root in her soups.

A great addition to any garden -- or plate-- Parsley.
